Ellen Turek and Mary Rendeiro, owners and partners of Shamrock Stitchery, welcome you to visit their website. Enjoy your stay!
Shamrock Stitchery is located in Mt. Sinai, New York, a small town on Long Island about one hour or so from New York City to the west and about one hour from the beautiful Hamptons to the east.
Ellen and Mary, sisters, have been making Irish dance dresses since 1993. But they have been interested in art and sewing all their lives. They were taught by their mother, Joan, who was a fashion designer for the Bergdorf Goodman Store in New York City before she started raising a family.
Ellen's two daughters are dancers for a school on Long Island where Ellen saw a need for a seamstress to make and alter school uniforms. She asked Mary if she was interested in sewing for a living. They were both raising their young children at the time and wanted to be home with them. So, after a trip to New York City to purchase materials and setting up two sewing machines in Ellen's kitchen, they went to work...and Shamrock Stitchery was born.
It wasn't long before Shamrock Stitchery became known to many other schools on Long Island. They started making their uniforms as well. Ellen and Mary love to create, so they started making solo costumes. They've come a long way in those short years and are now considered among the best seamstresses on the East Coast of the U.S. Ellen and Mary have tried to continue their "hands on" techniques. They try to make each dress match the personality of the dancer. They take time to drape colors on each girl to make sure the colors work well on the face.
